The FAA has issued a new Airworthiness Directive (AD) for the IAE V2500 engine, requiring operators to replace the diffuser case assembly following the discovery of manufacturing quality issues. The directive applies to V2500 engines powering aircraft such as the Airbus A320ceo family, MD-90, and Embraer KC-390. Without corrective action, the defect could lead to uncontained release of the diffuser case, posing a serious safety risk. The mandated replacement is estimated at around $255,950 per engine, combining labor and parts.
